A driver killed on the QEW in Mississauga Thursday morning after an object crashed through his windshield while he was driving has been identified by police as 43-year-old Miguel Pena.
`& H' T+ E! b5 o& M; VPort Credit Ontario Provincial Police say the object, which left a 30-sq.-cm. hole in the windshield, struck the driver, causing him to lose control of his Toyota Rav4 in the westbound lanes, near Mississauga Rd., at about 8 a.m.
/ C) n& w( J; m2 BPolice say the vehicle then struck the centre rail before veering across all three westbound lanes into a wooded area, where it crashed.
' ]) T# n3 {9 o s: B, KPena was rushed to Oakville-Trafalgar Memorial Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
; W' I* M) S0 m' H, H8 xSgt. Dave Woodford said investigators have the object, which measures about 30 square centimetres, in their possession.5 J2 F) D7 p" t3 O5 F
However, Woodford said police would not release details about what the object was until they have a chance to speak with witnesses. G% |0 [& ~; g- ^
Police don't yet know if the object came off another vehicle, was kicked up from the highway by traffic or originated elsewhere.
