, y4 D9 Y0 {. {* F6 KSpecial Investigations Unit (SIU) has been called in after a Peel Regional Police cruiser and a car collided on Friday night near Sheridan Centre, seriously injuring an eight-year-old boy., H* a5 v; t- I$ {4 R; S1 [9 P+ I0 J: t
& X- J6 G" n3 G$ l8 _SIU spokesperson Frank Phillips confirmed this afternoon that the provincial watchdog, which investigates incidents involving police where there has been a death, serious injury or allegations of sexual assault to determine whether officers should be charged, is involved due to the severity of the boy's injuries.
( ] @. b9 B# nThe boy, who was initially taken to a local hospital and later transported to Toronto's Hospital for Sick Children, is expected to recover, said Peel Cst. Thomas Ruttan. \, R* w3 {; W' R6 `
Meanwhile, police and the SIU are looking for witnesses to the Erin Mills Pkwy./Sheridan Park Dr. crash, which sent two other people, including a police officer, to hospital just after 9 p.m. The officer, who suffered minor injuries, was released from hospital.

Phillips said the SIU has yet to assign any subject or witnesses officers.( w% V# H4 _% U- `# Q! j) M
