Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have shut down the eastbound lanes of the highway near the McLaughlin Rd. bridge after the first crash was reported just after 3 p.m.
. q/ N2 i( [/ J; @0 \2 qMississauga firefighters had to cut the vehicle open with hydraulic tools to extricate two occupants. The vehicle was travelling in the eastbound lanes when, for reasons yet to be determined, it lost control and flipped at least once, according to police.
% i9 K! B) y2 u( f; U9 H5 @Two air ambulances are transporting the victims.+ l- M6 [& ]. Z& }5 L
Hwy. 401 eastbound remains closed, with traffic being diverted to the Mavis Rd. exit.
4 r4 m3 M+ h9 {, Z) {Meanwhile, about 30 minutes later, police and fire officials say, a tractor trailer rear-ended a vehicle on the westbound 401 near Dixie Rd.
" f2 _5 q8 \" I5 }. yThe driver of the vehicle needed to be extricated and is being rushed to hospital with life-threatening injuries.
0 T- j) D% `9 APolice have also shut down a section of the westbound highway to investigate.
: X7 U+ h3 V% h! X# C! s- ~The fire department's Hazardous Materials (HAZMAT) unit has been called to the Dixie crash as diesel fluid is leaking from the truck and needs to be contained.

Two separate crashes on Hwy. 401 in Mississauga Monday afternoon left two people dead, four others injured and hundreds of commuters snarled in traffic.
9 ~8 m* ]; q! u7 N% N# Q/ q( V6 ?1 OOntario Provincial Police (OPP) Sgt. Dave Woodford said autopsy will be done on both on the man and woman killed in the collisions to determine the cause of death.
# y) `. F$ W2 d- l: f7 P- BTheir names aren't being released at this time. It's also too early to determine whether charges will be laid in either crash, he added./ Z; I$ {1 U& y! ]9 { G( x6 R: |3 a% ^
Lanes were closed at Dixie Rd. and the westbound Hwy. 401 express lanes after a three-vehicle collision around 3:40 p.m." @8 T- a0 d r
A tractor-trailer collided with a Nissan Xterra, pushing it into the path of another car, said Woodford.5 L4 u" M! i, z1 W1 w
The male driver of the Nissan Xterra was pronounced dead at the scene, he said. The male drivers of the truck and the other car were uninjured, and there were no passengers.1 t2 R# N: `3 }8 \2 P
About 40 minutes earlier, a Dodge Caravan travelling eastbound on Hwy. 401 struck a cement barrier and flipped over, colliding with a Ford pickup truck at McLaughlin Rd.

A female passenger in the Caravan was airlifted to Sunnybrook hospital, where she later died of her injuries. The male driver was taken to Credit Valley Hospital in Mississauga with serious injuries. i) L/ B9 k8 Q: r
The three occupants in the truck were also taken to Credit Valley Hospital. Their injuries are not considered life-threatening, police said.0 l. q( N# C: i, q4 y3 T5 _: v& |
The highway was closed for several hours from Mavis Rd. to Hurontario St. and reopened before 9 p.m.3 B& Y1 h6 s3 g( I* p, @7 y
